‘Impossibly Easy’ Low-FODMAP Turkey Taco Pie; Gluten-free

Here is an ‘impossibly easy’ Low-FODMAP Turkey Taco Pie recipe, for all of you out there with IBS following a low-FODMAP diet. This meal is nutritious, delicious and fills up the whole family with goodness, but takes absolutely NO expertise to put togther.
I know that some of you have tried my low-FODMAP Cheeseburger Pie, and adore the simplicity and flavor of this tried and true hearty meal. This low-FODMAP Turkey Taco Pie is a spin on that classic recipe, while using ground turkey instead of beef for a lower fat option.
I incorporate my versatile low-FODMAP Happy Spices Taco Seasoning, and the flavors of infused oils (safe for the low-FODMAP diet) to provide all the taste you love. Just wait till you try this low-FODMAP Turkey Taco Pie!!

Although this recipe has not been tested, a single serving should be low-FODMAP based on the ingredients
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook + Bake time: 35 minutes
Total time: 50 minutes
Bake: 400 F
Equipment: 9 inch glass pie plate
- 1 lb (16 ounces) ground turkey breast
- 1 tablespoon shallot or garlic infused olive oil
- Infused oils add flavor not FODMAPs! See my low-FODMAP Grocery Shopping Blog for tips on shopping for these 🙂
- 1 tablespoon low-FODMAP Happy Spices Taco Seasoning
- Store-bought taco blends often contain onion and garlic, be careful!
- 1 green chili, chopped (optional)
- 1/2 cup Gluten-free Bisquick™ mix, or other low-FODMAP Pancake Mix

- 1 cup low-FODMAP milk (such as lactose-free or almond milk)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup shredded Colby-Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/3 cup of cheese is one low-FODMAP serving as cheese is naturally low in lactose
- Avoid prepackaged cheese blends with added spices
- 1 medium tomato, chopped (3/4 cup)
- 1 & 1/2 cups shredded lettuce
- 2 tablespoons green scallion tips, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooking spray, for greasing
- Optional toppings: Hot sauce, low-FODMAP Salsa, lactose-free sour cream
- Preheat oven to 400°F and spray 9-inch glass pie plate with cooking spray
- In large skillet, over medium-high heat, place infused oil, then turkey
- Cook 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until turkey is no longer pink
- Stir in low-FODMAP Happy Spices Taco Seasoning and chopped green chili (if using)
- Spread in pie plate
- In medium bowl, whisk gluten-free Bisquick mix, low-FODMAP milk, and eggs until blended
- Pour into pie plate over the turkey
- Place in preheated oven and bake 25 minutes
- Remove from oven and sprinkle top with cheese and tomato
- Bake 2 to 3 minutes longer or until cheese is melted
- Let stand 5 minutes before serving
- Sprinkle with lettuce and chopped scallion tips before serving
- Serve with optional toppings, and additional salt and pepper to taste

Hello Rachel could I substitute ground beef in this recipe and still be following a low-cod map diet?
You most certainly can use beef or another ground meat for this recipe. Beef, pork, chicken, turkey are all low-FODMAP provided they don’t have added ingredients in the mixture. You can read our low-FODMAP Happy Gut Guide for some other information!

Hello! This is delicious! Do you think I could freeze some portions to consume at a later time? Do you think it would hold up in the freezer?
Thank you for reaching out! We have not tried to freeze the pie, but think it should probably work just fine if you wrap it very tightly. We do not suggest freezing the lettuce, however. Let us know how it turns out for you!
I just started the low-fod map diet last week and I am having a hard time adjusting to the diet. SO glad I ran across your website! Just made this for dinner and love the way it came out! Does your recipe book contain gluten-free and dairy free options?

If I want to make this ahead and bake at a later time, would you add the Bisquick mixture right before baking? Or could it be added when preparing the rest?
You could brown the turkey and complete that cooking step, and then freeze it if you wanted. You would then just defrost the turkey and incorporate the other ingredients. It may need to bake a slight amount longer. We do think that that would work. We do not suggest adding the eggs before freezing. Hope that helps! Let us know how it works out.
